Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, embodies the American dream. Instead of being born in some posh hospital in the suburbs of Swankville, U.S.A., “The Nigerian Nightmare” immigrated to the United States when he was eight years old and rose from promising young wrestler to mixed martial arts (MMA) world champion Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington Live Stream.

That’s why Usman believes he’s more American than top-ranked welterweight contender Colby Covington, who parades around town with the interim belt he lost earlier this year while also carrying on about his bromance with U.S. President Donald Trump. And yes, no appearance from “Chaos” would be complete without his red MAGA hat.
Colby Covington might once again be getting passed up for a title shot.

Usman vs. Covington Fight

Last week at his Tuesday Night Contender Series, Dana White told reporters that the UFC was currently working on a title fight between Covington and welterweight champion Kamaru Usman as the main event for UFC 244 in Madison Square Garden. But, according to Ariel Helwani, those negotiations have recently stalled, putting the fight in serious jeopardy.

This would not be the first time Covington missed out on a surefire title shot. In fact, this would make the hat trick. After defeating Rafael dos Anjos to claim an interim title, Covington refused to meet the UFC’s timeline for a fight with then-champion Tyron Woodley, wanting time to recover, so instead the UFC gave a title shot to Darren Till. Covington clearly learned nothing from that experience as afterwards, when he was once again reportedly in line for a shot at Woodley, Covington once again was unwilling to cater to the UFC’s timeline so Usman got the title shot instead and Covington had to fight Robbie Lawler. But coming off the dominant win over Lawler, most expected Covington to finally get his shot. History seems to be repeating itself though as now the UFC is reportedly looking into booking Covington;s friend and teammate Jorge Masvidal against Usman, something both Masvidal and his manager hinted at yesterday.

The UFC welterweight title clash featuring Kamaru Usman (15-1) vs. Colby Covington (15-1) is finally happening, and I think I’m almost ready to declare this as one of the best years the UFC has ever had.Watch UFC 245 Live Stream Reddit Free Online

It has to be, right? We’ve had some incredible bouts this year so far and witnessed some of the best contests in recent memory. To top it off, arguably the hottest rivalry in the sport will be settled before 2019 is history.

Betting on Usman vs. Covington is going to be crazy, so make sure you only opt for one of our recommended UFC betting sites when placing those bets.

This highly anticipated grudge match will go down as the main event of UFC 245, which is scheduled for December 14th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Make sure to pencil in that date!

With other huge bouts on the card, including title fights like Max Holloway vs. Alexander Volkanovski and Amanda Nunes vs. Germaine de Randamie, it’s going to be a great night of MMA.

As you can clearly see, Usman is the bookies’ favorite to win. In fact, he’s a pretty big favorite with odds at -275.I’m a little surprised to see Usman at this price against Covington, even if he has been favored in eight of his last nine fights by the oddsmakers.

The only bout in the last nine where “The Nigerian Nightmare” hasn’t been favored was against Tyron Woodley. This was the fight that won Usman the UFC welterweight title.

Covington approaches this fight as an underdog for the first time since he fought Demian Maia in Brazil. The most outspoken welterweight in MMA has never been a plus-money underdog while fighting under the UFC. This will be music to the ears of his fans or anyone else planning on betting on Covington to beat Usman.

In my opinion, this fight is a hell of a lot closer than the odds suggest. There’s little to nothing between these two guys, but I’m going to explain what those small differences are and how they could influence this fight. First, I’m going to break down Usman and Covington, starting with the challenger.
The Strengths of Colby Covington

Say what you want about Colby Covington, but there’s no doubt he’s a premier welterweight and an entertaining dude, too.

Sometimes, he may get a little too close to the edge with some of his comments, but it seems he’s driven by the desire to wind up his opponents. Covington has the support of the POTUS and a growing fanbase that wants to see him do well.

In many ways, Covington’s desire to play the bad boy of the UFC has been integral to the organization’s willingness to promote him. But, like Conor McGregor and Chael Sonnen before him, he has to back up that trash talk when given the opportunity to do so.

McGregor did, and he became a sensation as a result. Sonnen? Not so much. Covington will be hoping to follow the path of “The Notorious” rather than the “American Gangster” in this regard.

But do Covington’s strengths lie exclusively in his ability to get under other fighters’ skins? No. He is one hell of a fighter.
What Makes Covington Good?

Without touching on any particular skill or attribute, it’s important to highlight Covington’s incredible engine. His cardio is stupidly good.

This superpower is what provides him with the juice to throw punches in bunches and keep that high pressure and volume game at a rate most other fighters struggle to match.

He has a solid kickboxing game and has clearly made improvements with his striking overall. The most important tool he has other than his cardio is, naturally, his wrestling.

Covington is a former Division 1 All-American and a two-time Pac-10 champion. In other words, he’s one of the best wrestlers in the promotion and knows exactly how to use that to his advantage.

His takedowns can be spectacular at times, but it’s the hair-splitting efficiency of his overall game that makes him stand out. Double legs, clinches, transitions, and wrestling along the fence, Covington is capable of anything.

Throw in some next-level confidence, and you have yourself a very dangerous fighter!
The Strengths of Kamaru Usman

Kamaru Usman has not lost a fight since May 2013, when he lost by way of submission in the regional CFA promotion. It’s safe to say that the Nigerian-born welterweight has gone from strength to strength since then.

If Covington is the brash, obnoxious loudmouth, Usman couldn’t be any further from that mold. He has always conducted himself with decorum and has, for the most part, been a respectful fighter.

This is one of the reasons why many want to see Usman and Covington go head to head. Aside from these two being the best welterweights in the UFC, they seem to genuinely hate each other.

Fans of Usman want to see him stop Covington in his tracks and expose him as being all mouth and no action.

While I believe Colby Covington is an elite fighter who poses the greatest threat to Usman so far, you have to wonder if Usman will be heading into this fight with the intention of causing damage to his nemesis.
What Makes Usman Good?

Much like Covington, Usman has a tremendous engine, and this underpins every positive aspect of his game.Aside from his incredible cardio, Usman is also a powerful athlete. He’s strong and very overbearing to someone who doesn’t know how to deal with his attacks.

Like Covington, Usman is an All-American wrestler. He can also boast a Division II National champion medal. Usman’s game is based heavily on his wrestling prowess, as evidenced by the demolition job he did on Tyron Woodley at UFC 235.

When it comes to striking, there are even more parallels between him and Covington. There are similarities in how both men have been improving over the past couple of years and it’ll be interesting to see who’s the first to exchange.

Usman’s work in training under Henri Hooft has really shown itself to be crucial to his move up the UFC welterweight ladder. “The Nigerian Nightmare” has looked exceptionally crisp with his kicking game and very smart and elusive overall.

I like Usman’s switch kicks, especially when he’s targeting the body. I also like that he relies on his long reach when fighting on the outside.

While he’s not among the elite strikers on the roster, Usman is certainly both unpredictable and effective on the feet. More than that, he’s a smart fighter.
Betting on Usman vs. Covington

I think the best bet Usman vs. Covington bet will be that it will go the distance. I can’t see either guy knocking the other out, albeit for a flash, lucky punch. I don’t think this one ends in submission either. And with Covington rolling to five decisions in his last five fights, and Usman going four decisions in his last five, it certainly looks like it’ll be on the cards.

Factor in their insane cardio and it looks as though we’re in for a five rounder that will be settled by the judges. Apart from that, this is one of the most difficult fights I’ve tried to predict this year. It’s just insane how close these guys are and how similar they are in terms of skillsets and strengths.

Even their records are the same. Both guys are 15-1. Oh, and get this, Usman’s only loss came at the hands of Jose Caceres, who Covington beat by decision. Covington’s only loss came against Warlley Alves, who Usman beat by decision.

In terms of height and reach, Usman stands at 6’0″ with a reach of 76″. Covington is one inch shorter at 5’11” and has a shorter reach of 72″.

Both men are highly accomplished wrestlers who enjoy playing the pressure game. It’ll be interesting to see how all of these similarities are going to clash when these two step in the octagon.
Who Wins This Fight?

Kamaru Usman is a monster. There’s probably no welterweight on the planet right now that would look forward to facing him other than Colby Covington.

Why? Well, because Covington has the style to push Usman, unlike many other fighters out there. The key to this theory is that Covington can keep up with the pace. He can remain calm under the pressure that Usman’s dominant takedowns and overbearing style inflict on opponents.

When it comes to striking, Usman is stronger than Covington, in my opinion, and he hits harder. Even though Usman has the longer reach, I think he prefers to fight in the pocket and be close enough to ruffle the feathers of his opponents.

If Usman is to adopt the same style that he did against Woodley in his last fight, you’re going to see different results. Covington will not struggle the way Woodley did. He will be punching in bunches and his takedown defense will be a lot more effective.

I think those who are betting on Usman vs. Covington are picking the champ on account of that performance alone. If that’s the case, I would advise against it. As amazing as Usman was, that did not look like vintage Woodley in there, he hardly threw a shot.

So, here’s what I’m thinking. This fight is going to be a clash of styles. It will be amazingly close and should go all the way to the judges’ scorecards. But I’m backing Covington to win.
Why Covington Wins

First of all, Covington’s odds of +215 cannot be passed up. Usman is a -275 favorite in a fight that is pretty much 50/50? Why? How?

Aside from that, Colby Covington has shown us time and time again why we shouldn’t underestimate him. He hasn’t been beaten in almost four years and has passed every single major test since then with flying colors.

Covington’s volume punching and pressure game will be a problem for Usman. He’s tough and will not be afraid of standing up to anything Usman throws at him.

Oh, and one of the most overlooked factors in this fight is Covington’s ability to get under Usman’s skin. Covington will be winding him up before this fight and will own the psychological advantage heading into the bout.

What really swings it for me here is Covington’s odds. +215 is great betting value.
